Sophia is a nineteen-year-old college student. She loves pop culture based on history. She has watched Turn: Washington’s Spies, Hamilton: An American Musical (via streaming), and others. She draws fanart for her favorite historical figures as they are portrayed in media, such as by drawing the Marquis de Lafayette as looking like Daveed Diggs, and posts these to social media, such as Pinterest. This indicates an intermediate level of technical ability and a budding interest in history. Her exposure to dramatized history has sparked her interest in history and she seeks ways to learn more, but as a college student who is busy with core classes, she does not have as much time as she would like to do this. Her goal in using Hidden Spies (a working title for this project) is to satisfy her curiosity about the eras and people she has become interested in and learn about new people and eras, both out of intrinsic interest and to impress others in her online community when she can do fanart of people they might not have heard of.

Raphael is a seventeen-year-old high school student taking AP US history. Although he loves history, he was bored by how it was often taught to him in school, hence why he is now taking AP classes. He likes learning about history on his own and enjoys books that either talk about little-known parts of history or criticize popular views of history, such as Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Loewen. He also follows several history blogs, although he does not yet have the skills to make one of his own. This indicates an interest in history and free time in which to learn about it, as well as low-level but budding technical skills. His goal in using Hidden Spies is to continue learning on his own and sometimes to get inspiration or material for an AP assignment.

Cassie is a twenty-five-year-old who manages public relations for a nonprofit. They love history books that they can find on the main tables at box bookstores about exciting or unusual people or topics, but they find that they rarely has time to read these books when they buy them. They will sometimes go online and look up history blogs or YouTube channels, but do not follow or subscribe to any. They do not have excessive free time but go online during their breaks or in the evenings. They have a high level of technical proficiency but do not want to spend time trying to learn how a new site or service works. Their goal in using Hidden Spies is to quickly learn something new and to enjoy what free time they have.
